EHR ACADEMY

Launch of the EHR Academy

Based on the insightful discussions during the PharmEHR Summit, PDR Network has developed the EHR Academy – an online resource designed to share those insights and perspectives with those unable to attend the meeting.  The EHR Academy will include a series of educational materials focusing EHR adoption and the challenges and opportunities brought about by this trend.  Through educational white papers, case studies, videos and other materials, visitors will have access to information developed by industry leaders to appreciate the implications and begin thinking about their organization’s own EHR strategy.

 “The rapid adoption of  EHRs nationwide is quickly changing the healthcare regulatory and marketing dynamics  and healthcare professionals need to understand this quickly evolving aspect of the field.  Through the EHR Academy, we will share industry-leading insights to help healthcare executives prepare for the implications and opportunities EHR adoption holds for the pharmaceutical, biologics and medical device industries.” - Edward Fotsch, M.D., CEO, PDR Network

Below, please find videos of many of the presentations at the PharmEHR Summit. In the coming weeks, additional EHR Academy materials will be posted on this site for download to benefit all those in the healthcare industry as a free service of PDR Network.

The PharmEHR SummitTM

This April, PDR Network hosted the first annual PharmEHR Summit to address the rapid rate of EHR adoption and the resulting changes to the healthcare regulatory and marketing environments.  This first-of-its-kind meeting brought together leaders from the pharmaceutical and device industries, electronic health record (EHR) developers, government and other healthcare industry stakeholders.  Presentations during the meeting were led by healthcare decision-makers representing each facet of the industry, including:

  • Drs. Janet Woodcock, Director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, and Jeffrey Shuren, Director of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health, representing the FDA;
  • Glen Tullman, CEO of Allscripts, Stephen Malik, General Manager of Intuit Health and other leaders representing the EHR field;
  • Gary Appio, Head of US Safety Risk Management for Novartis, Patrick Reilly, Executive Director of Medical Information at Bristol-Myers Squibb, and others from the pharmaceutical and device industries;
  • And many more participants representing payers, liability carriers, third-party groups and other healthcare industry perspectives.
 “For the first time, a majority of office-based physicians are using an electronic medical records system, according to a survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics…EMR use in offices rose to 50.7% in 2010, more than double the adoption rate in 2005.” - American Medical News, January 10, 2011

Attendees at the meeting understood that the changes in physician workflows brought about by EHR adoption represent a great opportunity to refine marketing and regulatory strategies to deliver information and services at the point of care.  Delving deeper, speakers analyzed a range of EHR-related topics, including their impact on regulatory compliance, new marketing strategies, medication adherence programming and more, opening discussions and sharing insights to prepare attendees for future opportunities in this quickly-evolving aspect of the healthcare industry.
